A 40-year-old Niagara Falls man was fighting for his life Sunday night after he was struck by a hit-and-run car believed to have been speeding on Bailey Avenue near Roosevelt Avenue about 12:30 a.m. Sunday.

The victim, who has yet to be identified, was crossing Bailey when he was struck by the maroon vehicle with yellow New York State license plates. He suffered multiple injuries and was taken to Erie County Medical Center, where he was listed in critical condition.

Lt. Thomas J. Leatherbarrow, Accident Investigation Unit commander, said the car likely has front-end damage on the driver’s side. A city surveillance camera captured images of the car and victim, said Buffalo police spokesman Michael J. DeGeorge.
