A Niagara Falls man driving on the shoulder of a road Thursday night was charged with driving while intoxicated and drug possession after he was pulled over by state police on Grand Island.

Troopers identified the driver as Michael Davis, 36, of 18th Street.

He was stopped at about 7:45 p.m. while driving a gold Pontiac Grand Am on Long Road, according to police reports.

Davis, whom police said showed signs of intoxication and had failed roadside sobriety tests, was also observed chewing on a cigarette wrapper that contained heroin.
