A pickup truck struck a utility pole on Taylor Road at about 4:15 a.m. resulting in a power failure, police said. Some traffic lights in Orchard Park are running on generators.
A representative of New York State Electric & Gas couldn’t be reached to comment on the full extent of power failure resulting from the crash.
Witnesses told police the truck, which sustained heavy front-end damage, fled the scene. It later was found on Thorn Avenue in the village by Lt. Patrick Fitzgerald.
Joshua Nyitrai, 23, of Orchard Park, was charged with driving while intoxicated. Police said a breath test revealed his blood-alcohol content was .20. Nyitrai, who also was charged leaving the scene of a property damage accident and other, unspecified vehicle and traffic violations, remains in custody.
Orchard Park police also reported another drunk driving crash late Wednesday night.
at the intersection of Southwestern Boulevard and Michael Road.
