LOCKPORT – The body of a 50-year-old City of Lockport woman who was reported missing on Sunday was located by dive teams around noon today in the Erie Canal near the Canal Road Bridge.
The missing woman’s vehicle was found by family near the bridge at 12:21 p.m. Sunday and with the help of the Niagara County Sheriff Department a bloodhound led searchers to the water.
The Lockport Police Department searched the canal in its police boat for several hours on Sunday, but was unable to locate the woman. The search continued Monday, and with the assistance of the New York State Police Dive team, the woman was located in the canal.
No foul play is suspected, according to Det. Capt. Brian Wentland. He said they are not releasing the woman’s name at this time.
