A 25-year-old woman struck by gunfire early Wednesday while her vehicle was stopped at a red light became Buffalo’s first homicide victim of 2014, police spokesman Michael DeGeorge said.
The woman was in a Chrysler Pacifica northbound on Michigan Avenue, near Genesee Street, just after 3 a.m. when she was struck by gunfire, according to homicide detectives.
Detectives believe multiple shots were fired from a white SUV, possibly a Cadillac, while the victim’s vehicle was stopped at a red light, DeGeorge said.
The woman was taken to Buffalo General Medical Center, where she later died, he said.
Police are looking at the possibility that individuals in both vehicles are known to each other. Anyone with information is asked to call or text the confidential TIPCALL Line at (716) 847-2255 or email the department at www.bpdny.org.
