A tractor-trailer truck caught fire early Wednesday morning on the eastbound Thruway in Cheektowaga, according to State Police.
The driver of a FedEx tractor-trailer called police at about 2:45 a.m., after noticing what appeared to be a tire fire at the back of his rig, a trooper said. As the fire spread to the trailer, the trucker pulled off the side of the road near the Walden Avenue exits.
The right lane was blocked as emergency crews responded to the fire, the trooper said. Another trailer was brought to the scene so that the cargo in the disabled truck could be transferred.
Though the lane was reopened, some debris remained on the side of the road during this morning’s rush hour. No injuries were reported.
