LOCKPORT – A driver traveling eastbound on Summit Street just before 8 p.m. Tuesday was stopped and charged after Niagara County sheriff’s deputies said he appeared to be driving while impaired.
Dennis G. Perkins, 30, of Ontario Street, was charged with driving on the shoulder, operating a vehicle with an expired inspection sticker and operating a vehicle while impaired by drugs.
Deputies said they found a metal pipe with residue, which Perkins called a “one-hitter.” They said he admitted he used the pipe for smoking methamphetamine. He also said he uses the narcotics Xanax and Zoloft, but had not taken any recently, deputies said.
An evaluation by a drug recognition expert concluded that he was impaired and unable to drive.
