While some Buffalo police were participating in a gun buyback program Saturday to help get guns off the streets, others were doing it the old fashioned way.

Two Buffalo police officers spotted a man they said was walking on Bailey Avenue with an open container of Smirnoff Ice Screwdriver at about 10:15 p.m. Saturday. As the officers approached the man first dropped the Smirnoff’s bottle, then, as he continued running south on Bailey Avenue, he dropped a .25-caliber handgun, police said.

The gun and a magazine with three rounds were recovered by police, who also arrested the man, who was identified in police reports only as D. Patterson. He was charged with criminal possession of a weapon, a felony.
