Niagara County Sheriff’s Office investigators are trying to determine the identity of a man whose body was found in the lower Niagara River off Lewiston on Saturday night.
A boater spotted the body around 8:35 p.m. and dialed 911, police said. Members of the Sheriff’s Office and the U.S. Coast Guard responded to the scene and pulled the man from the water.
He is believed to be Hispanic or black, and was wearing black pants, but no forms of identification were found on the body. Authorities said it is not yet known whether foul play was involved.
The body was taken to the Erie County Medical Center for an autopsy by the Erie County Medical Examiner’s Office. Anyone with information about the victim is asked to call the Sheriff’s Office at 438-3393.
