PERRY – A Perry man has died from injuries suffered when he was shocked by a 35,000-volt power line while trying to steal copper wire from a utility substation.

Andrew Mower, 36, died at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester.

The Perry Police Department said Mower and a 24-year-old companion broke into a NYSEG site last Thursday in Perry.

Officers said Mower climbed onto a transformer and grabbed a 35,000-volt line. He was thrown to the ground and his clothing burst into flames. Investigators said the other man put out the fire and carried Mower outside.

Mower died at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester.

The other man is being held in the county jail.
