A former payroll coordinator at Medina Memorial Hospital admitted stealing nearly $500,000 from the hospital as part of a plea deal Wednesday.
Linda Rakonczay, 58, pleaded guilty to wire fraud and filing false tax returns before Chief U.S. District Judge William M. Skretny
Assistant U.S. Attorney Trini E. Ross said Rakonczay’s thefts began in 2001 and continued through 2012 and amounted to $499,563.
She said Rakonczay submitted reports to the hospital’s bank that allowed for the transfer of money into her personal bank account. Rakonczay also failed to report that income to the Internal Revenue Service.
The thefts were investigated by the FBI and IRS. She is to be sentenced later.
