A fire destroyed an Orchard Park apartment building Tuesday afternoon, as volunteer firefighters had to battle the blaze and blizzard conditions that froze their waterlines.
Firefighters and police were still on the scene of a working fire Tuesday afternoon at a 12-unit apartment complex at 60 Hunters Ridge Road, which runs between Southwestern Boulevard and Baker Road.
“Everyone has been evacuated – no injuries,” said Orchard Park Police Chief Mark Pacholec.
The building was a total loss, the chief said.
The fire started at around 2 p.m., but the cause is still unknown, Pacholec said.
Fire and police officials are still at the scene, he said late this afternoon.
“There weren’t a lot of people in the building, from what I was told,” the chief said.
Pacholec said firefighters are having a difficult time battling the blaze because of the frigid temperatures.
“We’re having a hard time, because the hoses are freezing,” he said.
