A 25-year-old Grant Street man was arrested because of the pinging of an allegedly stolen cell phone Monday night about an hour after a West Ferry Street store was robbed by three men.

Ahmed Kady was charged with first-degree robbery, fourth-degree grand larceny and criminal possession of stolen property after he was identified by a clerk at the Urban Touch clothing store at 284 West Ferry Street as one of the three men who robbed the store about 7 p.m., stealing merchandise including two expensive cell phones.

According to police the ping from one of the stolen phones was traced to the car in which Kady was stopped at Grand and Arnold streets about 8 p.m. Clerks told police Kady went behind the checkout counter and made threats as the other two suspects stole merchandise from a telephone case, and one of the clerk’s own cell phones which was on and was traced to the car Kady was driving. Nearly $2,000 in merchandise was stolen and police Tuesday night were continuing a search for the two other suspects in the robbery, using store video tapes to identify them.
