HEAVENLY HOGS – Riders from across the country will roll in for the annual Labor Day campout hosted by the Hog Farm, the custom motorcycle shop in West Seneca, which is so big that it turns the three-day holiday weekend into a four-day affair.

It gets underway Friday at the Hogarosa Motorcycle Campgrounds off Summit Lane three miles outside Springville and includes a variety of awards and competitions, including a tattoo contest, a motorcycle rodeo and contests to determine the Best Chopper and a Ms. Hog Holiday.

Dan Harper and the Magic Show kick off a succession of live bands Friday evening, followed Saturday by the Dave Viterna Group and California biker-musician Charlie Brechtel, who is flying in to give a champagne toast to the Hog Farm on its 45th anniversary.

Sunday will see the legendary Rochester-based Invictas, who had a hit in the 1960s with “The Hump.” Rounding out the musical lineup will be Ron Yarosz and the Vehicles.

Tickets for the weekend are $45, and $20 for kids ages 6 to 14. Campsites with water and electricity are $20 extra. Anyone under 21 must be accompanied by a parent. PRICE IS RIGHT – Weidner’s barbecued chicken is featured as St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 3512 Clinton St. at Union Road, West Seneca, holds its monthly community dinner and social gathering from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday. Dinner also includes macaroni salad and cucumber salad.

The meal is free, one serving per person, and donations are welcome.

BEACH PATROL – The Great Lakes Beach Sweep, which locally cleans up trash and debris along Lake Erie, is being augmented on International Coastal Cleanup Day, Sept. 20, by Buffalo Niagara Riverkeeper, which will lead pickups along inland waterways.

Great Lakes Beach Sweep’s home base will be Woodlawn Beach State Park in Hamburg and will cover other parks along the lake, such as Bennett Beach and Evangola State Park in Evans, and parks in Chautauqua County.

Buffalo Niagara Riverkeeper will concentrate on places such as Glen Falls in Amherst, Hoyt Lake in Delaware Park, Black Rock Canal Park along the Niagara River, the Ohio Street Boat Launch, Cayuga Creek in Niagara Falls and Ellicott Creek in the Town of Tonawanda.

Volunteer individuals and groups of all ages are needed from 10 a.m. to noon. Last year, more than 5,600 volunteers removed more than 62,000 pounds of debris from beaches and shore areas.

GIVING VOICE – Young singers from across the region are invited to lend their talents to the ABC Bel Canto Choirs, which showcase grade school and high school students in a variety of performances, including an upcoming concert in Kleinhans Music Hall.

Choirs rehearse on Thursdays during the school year in Christ United Methodist Church, 350 Saratoga Road, Amherst, and include Presto, for students in grades three to six; Vivace, a treble choir for those in grades six to 12; and Bravo, a mixed-voice group with changed male voices and high-school-age women.
