EASTERN DELIGHTS – One of the area’s biggest church-sponsored ethnic festivals opens late this afternoon. It’s the 16th annual Western New York Lebanese Festival at St. John Maron Church, 2040 Wehrle Drive, Amherst.

It has amusement rides for youngsters, games, raffles, live music and dancing. There’s plenty of Lebanese food as well – grape leaves, tabbouleh, hummus, shish kabob, falafel, spinach wraps, lubneh (yogurt cheese), baqlewa (baklava) and mamoul (cookies filled with pistachios, walnuts or dates). Hours are 5 to 11 p.m. today, 2 to 11 p.m. Saturday and noon to 8 p.m. Sunday. For info, call 634-0669.

MAIN ATTRACTIONS – Renew your acquaintance with a classic Main Street at the 45th annual East Aurora Street Festival and Sidewalk Sale from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. In addition to the downtown merchants, there will be more than 100 vendors, special guests and family activities along the street.

Special guests include Buffalo Sabres national anthem singer Doug Allen, who will perform “The Star-Spangled Banner” at 9:45 a.m. with the American Legion Post 362 Color Guard. The award-winning Rince na Tiarna Irish dancers will perform at 10:30.
