Memorial Memory

There is a special time

that comes near the end of May.

A special date to remember,

referred to as Memorial Day.

Do not overlook the significance

of this very important date.

There is much more to this holiday

than serving food on a plate.

It is a time to pay tribute and honor

to all soldiers by land, air or sea.

They left to fight in foreign lands

so today we are allowed to be free.

A special reverence to the soldiers

who fought and have since left us.

They went off to serve their country,

to do their duty without any fuss.

Think about where we would be

without these brave women and men.

Would there be a choice for freedom,

if so, how would we achieve it and when?

We must always remember

how our freedom came to be.

Many soldiers fought and died,

so freedom is not really free.

So keep the memory of our military

when you see our flag on display.

Honor our soldiers all year long,

they deserve far more than just one day.
