CENTURY PLANT – The history of the Buffalo & Erie County Botanical Gardens will be the topic May 15 in the final program of the Let’s Do Lunch series in Orchard Park Presbyterian Church, 4369 S. Buffalo St.

Speaker will be David Swarts, president and chief executive officer of the Botanical Gardens. STAYING ALIVE – Like CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation), QPR is an emergency technique to save lives. In this case, it saves people who are danger of committing suicide.

A training session in QPR, which stands for Question, Persuade and Refer, will be held from 1 to 3:30 p.m. May 31 in the Episcopal Diocesan Ministry Center, 1064 Brighton Road, Town of Tonawanda. Registration is free, and it’s open to anyone 18 and older.

TASTY TALENTS – Brighton Place, the library and community center in the Town of Tonawanda, will benefit from Cook For Books, a fundraising evening featuring six leading local chefs at 6 p.m. Thursday in Banchetti by Rizzo’s, 550 North French Road, Getzville.

Sharing the kitchen will be J. J. Richert from Torches, Mike Andrzejewski of Seabar and Banchetti’s Jeff Levea, plus chefs from other Rizzo restaurants.
