LENTEN CATCHES – The folks at South Buffalo Post 721, American Legion, 136 Cazenovia St., are greeting the arrival of Lent with a fish fry dinner from 4 to 7 p.m. today. Dinners are $9 and include broiled or beer-battered haddock, coleslaw, macaroni salad, French fries and bread with butter. Chicken finger dinners also are available. For info, call 825-9557.

The Hilbert College Alumni Association will sponsor a Lenten fish fry dinner from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Friday in the Campus Center Dining Hall at the college, 5200 South Park Ave., Hamburg.

Dinners are $10 and include baked or fried fish, French fries, potato salad, macaroni salad, coleslaw, dessert and a beverage. Children’s dinners of grilled cheese or chicken nuggets are available for $6. Proceeds benefit the Alumni Scholarship Fund.

GOT GAME? – The Buffalo Sabres Sled Vets invite veterans of all abilities to learn how to play sled hockey as part of the VA Western New York Healthcare System’s recreation therapy program. Previous hockey experience is not required, and veterans do not have to be disabled to participate.

KEEPING THE TRADITION – The Sisters of St. Joseph will host their 20th St. Joseph’s Day Table from noon to 3 p.m. Sunday in Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church, 10950 Main St., Clarence.

In the tradition of the St. Joseph’s Day Table, there will be no charge, but contributions are welcome for the food pantries at Clarence First Presbyterian Church, St. Aloysius Gonzaga Parish in Cheektowaga and SS. Columba & Brigid in Buffalo. Last year, about 600 attended, and $6,500 was given to the food pantries.

JUST PURR-FECT – Ten Lives Club, the Southtowns cat rescue and adoption service, will hold its 12th annual Fur Ball from 1 to 6 p.m. Sunday in the Knights of Columbus Hall, 36 Pierce Ave., Hamburg.

In addition to music, food, crafts and vendors, there will be more than 100 theme baskets. Cats will be available for adoption at reduced rates.
