OLAF FUB SEZ: Advice from composer Virgil Thomson, born on this date in 1896, “Try a thing you haven’t done three times. Once, to get over the fear of doing it. Twice, to learn how to do it. And a third time to figure out whether you like it or not.”

A Time For Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving is a time to share

With loved ones along life’s way

One special day to celebrate the joy and peace

As God’s love condescends upon our day.

The soldiers coming back from war

To calm their war-torn lives

And share a great Thanksgiving meal

With their husbands and their wives.

There’s joy of living and joy of giving

Each moment of the day

With thankfulness to God above

For pleasures along life’s way.

A stroll down the avenue

To share a dream or two;

What better time to celebrate

As memories come into view.

A prayer for hope; a prayer for peace

A gracious God above

Who’s given us a treasure chest

And fills our hearts with love.

ALL ABOARD! – Is there a railroad buff on your Christmas list? The Friends of the Salamanca Rail Museum have just the gift you need – the 2014 edition of the Salamanca Rail Museum calendar, which has been issued annually since 1981.

The cover features a vintage photograph of the Salmanca railroad station, built by the Erie Railroad 110 years ago. Oldest image inside is from the mid-1890s, showing a special passenger train arriving at the classic Victorian station in Bradford, Pa. It concludes in December with Santa waving to a crowd as he arrives in the cab of an Erie Railroad passenger train in Salamanca in the mid-1950s.

The calendar is available by mail for $5. Send a check or money order to Salamanca Rail Museum, 170 Main St., Salamanca, NY 14779. For credit card orders, call 945-3133.
