Private services for Stanley R. Zaretski, a Korean War veteran, were held Thursday in Olyphant, Pa.
Mr. Zaretski, who lived in Elma, died July 18 – his 61st wedding anniversary – in Mercy Hospital after a short illness. He was 83.
He was born in Dickson City, Pa., about five miles north of Scranton. He joined the U.S Army and served in the 28th Infantry as part of an occupation force in Germany.
After his discharge, Mr. Zaretski moved to Buffalo and worked at the General Motors Tonawanda Engine Plant for one year before he launched a 39-year career at Moog Inc. in Elma, where he retired as a mechanical engineer.
Mr. Zaretski was a member of Annunciation Catholic Church in Elma.
He was a longtime member of the Jamison Road Volunteer Fire Department and member and past master of Blazing Star Lodge 694, F&AM, in East Aurora.
Survivors include his wife, the former Ethel Semkew; a son, Kevin; and a sister, Evelyn Malinowski.
A private funeral liturgy was held in SS. Cyril & Methodius Ukrainian Catholic Church.
