Sept. 17, 1926 – April 27, 2014

Robert Alan Hendricks, formerly of Amherst, whose career as an accountant spanned 40 years, died April 27 in an assisted living residence in Lady Lake, Fla. He was 87.

Born in Buffalo, Mr. Hendricks attended Bennett High School but before graduation joined the U.S. Navy. He served as a fireman first class from January 1944 to May 1946 during World War II. After the war, he returned to school and graduated from Bennett High School.

Mr. Hendricks was an accountant for the hydraulic division for Houdaille Industries, a manufacturing plant of shock absorbers, auto parts, machine tools and other steel products on East Delavan Avenue in Buffalo. He retired in October 1988. Mr. Hendricks moved to Florida in June 2013.

A lifelong New York Yankees fan with a passion for baseball, he coached the Connie Mack Little League in Amherst as well as the Eggertsville-Snyder League. He was a member of the American Legion George F. Lamm Post 622.

His wife, the former Dorothy L. Hey, died in August 1990. Survivors include his son, Robert J.; two daughters, Lynn Kubacki and Gail Hall; a brother, Jack Richard; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in Dengler, Roberts, Perna Funeral Home, 8630 Transit Road, East Amherst.
