Otha R. Lee, a longtime security officer and liaison for the Buffalo School District, died last Friday after a lengthy illness in his Cheektowaga home. He was 68.
Mr. Lee was born in Baltimore and raised and educated in Buffalo, graduating from Lafayette High School in 1964. He was a graduate of Bryant & Stratton Business Institute, where he studied accounting.
Mr. Lee worked for the Buffalo School District for more than 30 years as a security officer and liaison, retiring in 2002. He was one of the district’s first security officers, hired during an outbreak of gang violence, and was liaison to the Buffalo Police Department. He was honored with several recognition awards. A Buffalo Bills fan, Mr. Lee attended numerous home games.
Survivors include his wife of 48 years, the former Claudia Hairston; three sons, Byron R., Derrick P. and Jason S.; two sisters, Sarah Weiner and Charliner Lee; a brother, Alan; and eight grandchildren.
A memorial service is being planned.
