Matthew J. Comerford, legislative assistant to South Council Member Christopher P. Scanlon and son of James W. Comerford Jr., the city’s permit and inspection services commissioner, died unexpectedly Sunday in his South Buffalo home. He was 30.
Born in Buffalo, he was a 2002 graduate of Bishop Timon-St. Jude High School, where he was senior class president and a varsity football player. He earned a bachelor’s degree in political science from Hilbert College.
His various jobs included ticket taker for the Buffalo Bills and clubhouse manager for the Buffalo Bisons.
An avid runner, he completed the New York City Half Marathon in 2010 and regularly ran along McKinley Parkway in South Buffalo.
A dedicated sports fan, he was a Buffalo Bills season ticket holder and assisted with Timon athletics.
In addition to his father, survivors include his mother, Catherine; a brother, James W. III; three sisters, Erin Collichio, Mary and Maura Devlin; and his longtime friend, Julie Fumanti.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 9:15 a.m. Thursday in Our Lady of Victory Basilica, Ridge Road and South Park Avenue, Lackawanna.
