Mary A. Donovan, of Orchard Park, a registered nurse and teacher, died Saturday in Hospice Buffalo, Cheektowaga, after a short illness. She was 91.

Born Mary Sheehan in South Buffalo, she was the oldest of eight children.

Mrs. Donovan became a registered nurse after graduating from Our Lady of Victory School of Nursing and earned her bachelor’s degree in nursing from the University of Buffalo.

Mrs. Donovan worked as a school nurse in Buffalo public schools and as a public health nurse, then was an instructor at the Mercy Hospital School of Nursing.

She then earned a master’s degree in education from Buffalo State College and finished her career teaching kindergarten in the Maryvale Central School District, retiring in the mid-1980s.

A former resident of Snyder, she lived in the St. Petersburg, Fla., area in retirement until returning here a few years ago.

She enjoyed golfing, traveling and reading.

In Florida, she was a tour guide at the Salvador Dali Art Museum.

Her husband of 35 years, William R., a railroad conductor, died in 1992.

Survivors include a brother, Edward Sheehan, and a sister, Margaret McGorray.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Nativity of Our Lord Catholic Church, 26 Thorn Ave., Orchard Park.
