Marcella E. Gregoire died Friday in her West Seneca home after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease. She was 80.
Born Marcella E. Reeb in Cheektowaga, she earned a master’s degree in special education from Buffalo State College and a nursing degree from D’Youville College in 1954.
She was a registered nurse and worked at Our Lady of Victory Hospital from 1955 to 1960. As a health educator, she taught students from 1970 to 1984 at Immaculata Academy in Hamburg and Trocaire College in Buffalo. Prior to retirement in 2001, she was a developmental specialist and teacher at Western New York Developmental Disabilities Service Office in West Seneca.
Active in her community, Mrs. Gregoire was a Eucharistic minister at St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church and member of the Red Hat Society, Simons Angels, and Altar and Rosary Society. She was recipient of the Mother of the Year award by the West Seneca Press in 1987.
Mrs. Gregoire enjoyed travel and is remembered for her beautiful gardens and vibrant singing voice.
Survivors include her husband of 59 years, David J.; nine daughters, Mary Reali, Eileen Grew, Claire Szczerbinski, Nancy Beres, Jean Joy, Joan Salman, Julie, Jacqueline Jokic, and Jennifer; seven sons, John, Joseph, William, Robert, Matthew, Paul and Martin; two brothers, Thomas and Gerald Reeb; and 26 grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday in St. Martin of Tours Church, 1140 Abbott Road.
