Judy A. Gessert, of Cheektowaga, a retired bank executive and Girl Scout leader, died Tuesday in Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital, Amherst. She was 65.
Born in Buffalo, Miss Gessert was a 1964 graduate of Depew High School and studied at Erie Community College and the American Institute of Banking.
She began a 45-year career in banking in 1966 at Western Savings Bank, where she became supervisor of office services. From 1982 to 1991, she was a project analyst at Goldome Bank, then was a senior business analyst at KeyCorp and a project manager for Key Services from 1991 to 1999.
After two years as a project manager for Adelphia, she joined HSBC as an assistant vice president for risk systems. She retired in 2011.
A member of the Girl Scouts of America for 58 years, beginning as a Brownie, Miss Gessert was a troop leader and, for the past four years, was service unit manager for 38 troops in the West Seneca area. As a troop leader, she received the Green Angel Award, the Green Angel Pin and the Volunteer of Excellence Award.
She was an accomplished photographer and created wedding albums. She won ribbons for her photos and her craftwork at the Erie County Fair, and was the official photographer for the Mike Canty Fun Run, a memorial fundraiser in Schenectady honoring a 9/11 victim.
She was a team bowler and enjoyed gardening, golf, softball, traveling, camping and the outdoors.
She also enjoyed visiting casinos, and she organized casino weekends for her friends.
Survivors include two sisters, Janet Amigone and Betty Penkalski.
Funeral services will be held at noon Monday in Urban-Amigone Funeral Home, 1024 French Road, Cheektowaga.
