Joseph R. Teresi, an owner and partner in Commercial Insurance Consultants of Williamsville, died Monday in his home in the Rochester suburb of Brighton after a battle with brain cancer. He was 46.
Born in Buffalo, he was a 1985 graduate of Canisius High School and a 1989 graduate of St. Lawrence University.
He earned his master’s degree in business administration from Columbia University.
From 2006 to 2012, Mr. Teresi was the chief executive officer of First Niagara Risk Management, First Niagara Financial Group’s Brighton-based insurance subsidiary, and expanded its insurance brokerage business into Pennsylvania and New England.
He went to First Niagara after 17 years at Chubb Corp., the last four as branch manager of the Rochester office.
Mr. Teresi joined Chubb in 1989 as an underwriting trainee, then became marketing manager and regional marketing manager.
He moved to the Rochester area in 2002.
He was a member of the Rochester Business Council and the board of directors of the YMCA of Greater Rochester.
Survivors include his wife, Gina; a daughter, Alyssa; a son, Michael; his parents, Frank and Patricia; a sister, Jacquelene Maier; and a brother, Frank.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11 a.m. Friday in St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 2617 East Ave., Brighton.
