John F. Malloy, a retired certified public accountant, died Sunday in Hospice Buffalo, Cheektowaga, after an 18-month illness. He was 77.
Born in Buffalo, Mr. Malloy grew up in Riverside and graduated from Kenmore West High School. He went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in accounting from the University of Buffalo in 1958.
In 1969, he joined Percival G. Bixby and Co., which through a series of mergers became Deloitte & Touche, where Mr. Malloy became a managing partner in 1983. He retired from the firm in 1997.
He then spent six years working for Smith & Schulte Furniture and three years as a finance officer for Oracle Charter School.
Mr. Malloy was active in the local community, serving on the boards of Kenmore Mercy Hospital, the United Way, the Taste of Buffalo, the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, the YMCA and Shea’s Performing Arts Center.
Mr. Malloy is survived by his wife of 54 years, the former Deanna Green; a daughter, Lynn Fetes; a son, Thomas; and four grandchildren. His son Daniel died in 2013.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 9 a.m. Thursday in St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church, 200 St. Gregory Court, Amherst.
