Joan K. Kane, who served as president of the Women’s Board of Studio Arena Theatre, died Nov. 10 in St. Francis Nursing Home, Williamsville, after a short illness. She was 76.
Born Joan Kelly in Buffalo, she attended St. Benedict’s Elementary School and was a 1955 graduate of Sacred Heart Academy. She earned a degree as a medical records librarian from Rosary Hill College, now Daemen College, in 1959.
In addition to her activities with Studio Arena, Mrs. Kane was a member of the Canisius High School Parents Guild, the Ladies Auxiliary of the Erie County Medical Society and the Women’s Auxiliary of the Amherst Gaelic League.
A former resident of Snyder and Williamsville, she moved to Lauderdale-by-the-Sea, Fla., in the 1990s but continued to spend summers at Point Abino, Ont.
She was a parishioner of St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church, Amherst, for more than 30 years.
Her husband, Dr. Leo A., a pediatric anesthesiologist, died in 2009.
Survivors include a daughter, Brigid Hurley; three sons, Patrick, Timothy and Kevin; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
A memorial Mass will be offered at 10 a.m. today in St. Michael Catholic Church, 651 Washington St.
