Jeffrey T. Krauss, of North Collins, who formerly co-owned the Langford Hotel and had headed the town’s Democratic Committee and was a town councilman, died Wednesday in the Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Buffalo. He was 56.
A lifelong resident of North Collins, he grew up in Langford and graduated from North Collins High School. He served as an airman in the U.S. Air Force.
For several years, Mr. Krauss and his mother, the late Maureen Kelly, owned the Langford Hotel, which has since closed. Mr. Krauss helped organize Langford pool leagues with the neighboring communities of Eden and Gowanda, golf tournaments, euchre and shuffleboard tournaments. The hotel also was well known for its Friday fish fries.
Up until his death, Mr. Krauss served as chairman of the North Collins Democratic Committee.
He also was a town councilman for four years, having just completed his first term. He lost his re-election bid in November.
He also worked as a licensed insurance agent for Mecca Agency until last July.
His wife of four years, the former Cynthia Bailey, said he cherished his time with his pool league friends and loved sports, including baseball.
Mr. Krauss was a member of the Masons.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a brother, Wayne.
