Helen W. Westley died Friday at her home in Clarence while under the care of Hospice. She was 87.
She was born Helen Electa Waddel on a dairy farm in Mayville that had no electricity or indoor plumbing.
Mrs. Westley worked for the Town of Clarence from 1974 to 1994. She served as secretary to Supervisors Carl Giglia and Skip Grenzebach for 16 of those years.
Her first husband, Raymond Swart, died in 1992.
In 1996, she married William C. Westley in Clarence.
Mrs. Westley enjoyed music and playing the organ, and liked playing cards and board games.
She was a 50-year member of Clarence Presbyterian Church and served as a deacon, volunteered at Brothers of Mercy and was a member of the Clarence Woman’s Club, the Ladies Auxiliary of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Clarence Senior Center.
In addition to her husband, survivors include two sons, William Swart and Thomas Swart; a daughter, Susan Frahm; two stepsons, James and Robert Westley; and two stepdaughters, Allison Rabin and Cynthia.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Clarence Presbyterian Church, 9675 Main St.
