Helen P. Sfeir, a beautician and a volunteer who helped the poor and displaced, died Monday in Canterbury Woods, Amherst. She was 92.
Born Helen Zakrzewski in Buffalo, she helped her husband, Norman P. Sfeir, and his family in the development of the Hector’s Hardware store chain. She was self-employed as a beautician.
In 1994, she was honored by St. Luke’s Mission for her volunteer work with the poor and in 2002 by Sister Karen Klimczak for her work with ex-convicts.
A duplicate-bridge player, she was a life master and competed in tournaments nationwide.
Her husband of 46 years died in 1988. Survivors include a son, Dr. Norman J.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 9:15 a.m. Thursday in St. Leo the Great Catholic Church, 885 Sweet Home Road, Amherst.
