Harold Forest Raab, longtime resident of Lake View, died Sunday in Mercy Hospital after a recent injury. He was 93.
Born in Buffalo, “Herky,” as he was fondly known, and his wife Doris were longtime members of Wayside United Presbyterian Church in Hamburg, where they were sponsors of the Youth Fellowship program for many years. As a couple, they mentored and touched the lives of many young people their sons’ ages. Later, they joined Lake View Community Church, where they were active members.
Mr. Raab was introduced to the Meals On Wheels program by his second wife, Leah. He continued as a volunteer up to the time of his death. He had recently received his 20-year pin for his volunteer service.
Mr. Raab’s body was donated to the University at Buffalo for research.
His first wife, Doris Fredenburg Raab, died in 1989. His second wife, Leah Reese Raab, died in 2012.
Survivors include two sons, Thomas and Wayne; four grandchildren; a longtime caregiver, his nephew, Joe Peiffer; two stepdaughters, Cheryl Andrew and Renee Linden; and stepgrandchildren.
A memorial service will be scheduled.
