Gretchen K. Meyers, of Williamsville, an executive secretary at National Gypsum Corp. for 38 years, died last Wednesday in ElderWood Health Care at Wedgewood, Amherst. She was 97.
Born in Buffalo, Miss Meyers was a graduate of Bennett High School and served as a secretary to chief executive officers in National Gypsum’s offices in Buffalo and Dallas. She was a member of the National Gypsum Buffalo Trailblazers, an organization of company retirees.
A resident of Oakbrook Condominiums in Amherst for 21 years, she was a building representative and a founding member of the book club there. Until two years ago, she walked daily, swam in the outdoor pool regularly in the summer and was considered an inspiration to others.
She was a parishioner at St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church and a dedicated Red Cross volunteer.
She also enjoyed music, the theater and traveling.
Survivors include nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 9:15 a.m. Thursday in St. Gregory the Great Church, 200 St. Gregory Court at Maple Road, Amherst.
