Gloria M. Magee of Amherst, a retired Erie County probation officer, died Thursday in Elderwood in Cheektowaga. She was 87.
The former Gloria Marie Mueller was born in Buffalo and was a 1943 graduate of Mount St. Joseph Academy. In 1946, she graduated cum laude from D’Youville College with a bachelor of arts degree in sociology. She went on to hold positions through the early 1950s as a senior case worker with the Erie County Child Welfare Department and a tenant aide with the Buffalo Municipal Housing Authority.
From 1965 to 1968, Mrs. Magee served as director of alumnae relations at D’Youville. She was employed as a probation officer with the Erie County Probation Department from 1977 to 1992, and served as vice president and secretary of J.B. Magee Associates.
Among her many other memberships and fundraising activities, she was Parish Women’s Division chairwoman for the Catholic Charities Appeal in 1969, vice chairwoman of the Women’s Division of the Catholic Charities Appeal from 1970 to 1972, and a member of the Longview Niagara board of directors.
Mrs. Magee also was a member of the American Association of University Women, the National Catholic Honor Society, Seton Guild of Emergency Hospital and Marillac Guild of Sisters Hospital, among others.
She was predeceased by her husband, Leo J.
She is survived by three daughters, Constance Reger, Carolyn Nolan and Mary Louise Stanley; and a son, Leo J. Jr.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. Wednesday in St. Joseph University Catholic Church, 3269 Main St.
