Evelyn Bailey, a retired secretary and a lifelong Buffalo resident, died Thursday in a nursing home in South Buffalo. She was 107.
The former Evelyn Leech grew up on Buffalo’s West Side and graduated from Bryant & Stratton Business Institute. Before she was married, she worked for S.A. Day Co. on Niagara Street as a secretary and stenographer.
After raising her children, Mrs. Bailey worked at Seneca Hobby, clerked at Cook’s Toyland in the Abbott Road Mall and served as a secretary for 16 years at Mercy Hospital, retiring in the 1970s.
Her husband of 67 years, William T., a potter at Buffalo China, died in 1996.
Survivors include a son, William Jr., and a daughter, Suzanne Haux.
A memorial service will be at 5 p.m. today in Loomis, Offers & Loomis Funeral Home, 1820 Seneca St.
