Edmund W. Burke, an attorney who was a lifelong Buffalo resident, died Tuesday at his home after a short illness. He was 70.
Born in Buffalo, Mr. Burke graduated from Canisius High School in 1961 and Canisius College in 1965. He obtained his law degree from the University at Buffalo School of Law in 1968.
Mr. Burke practiced law from 1968 to 2009, specializing in workers’ compensations matters. He was a partner in Williams, Williams, Volgenau and Burke and of counsel to McLaughlin, Abbarno and Kedzielawa. He retired in 2009.
Mr. Burke was a member of the Saturn Club and Derby Club, which he served as president four times and tennis chairman 12 times. He also was a supporting member of the Darwin Martin House Restoration Foundation and Graycliff Conservancy.
He is survived by his wife, the former Kathaleen Roberts; a son, William J. II; a sister, Jane Burke Riga; and two grandchildren.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. April 6 in Unitarian Universalist Church of Buffalo, 695 Elmwood Ave.
