WHEATFIELD – Chester S. Stachura, Korean War veteran, IBM employee and longtime volunteer firefighter, died Tuesday in Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Buffalo. He was 84.
Mr. Stachura was born in Buffalo and lived there until 1964, when he moved to Wheatfield.
He served in the Army in the Korean War.
Mr. Stachura was a field engineer specialist for IBM, retiring in 1987.
A life member of Adams Volunteer Fire Company, with 42 years of service, Mr. Stachura served as president, vice president and secretary, and was a founding member and director of the Wheatfield Firemen’s Benevolent Association. He also was a member of Niagara County Fire Police Association and the American Legion, and won the President’s Volunteer Service Award in 2011.
Mr. Stachura’s wife, the former Gloria Swanson, died in 1991. Survivors include two daughters, Elaine Alvord and Rachelle Iadicicco; and two sons, Walter and Chester A.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday in Our Lady of Czestochowa Catholic Church, 626 Oliver St., North Tonawanda.
