NORTH TONAWANDA – St. Mary and St. Moses Coptic Orthodox Church will hold its fifth annual Egyptian Festival from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday and noon to 7 p.m. Sunday, offering a taste of authentic Middle Eastern food and culture on the church grounds, 350 Wheatfield St. at Payne Avenue.

Adel Sadek, a church member and University of Buffalo engineering professor, said the festival includes tours of the church and the history of the church and its heritage, as well as a bookstore and gift shop, but Sadek said the obvious star of the festival is the authentic Egyptian food, which he said is very close to Greek food.

The festival will raise money for those who have been touched by the recent violence in Egypt, he said.

“Income from the festival will go to help those in Egypt who have lost their homes and their churches were burned,” Sadek said.
