A Buffalo man led police on a 1.5-mile car chase through North Buffalo after he nearly ran into a police officer who was entering her patrol car on Delaware Avenue. When his car was finally stopped in an Elmwood Avenue parking lot, some powdered cocaine and marijuana were found in the vehicle.

Luis D. Mangual, 20, of Groveland Avenue, was charged with reckless endangerment, speeding, reckless driving, driving with a suspended license and drug possession as well as other vehicle and traffic counts.

His passengers, Akiem D. Sumter, 21, of Sandrock Street, and Rebecca Sniatecki, 25, of Prospect Avenue, were charged with drug possession.

Police said Officer Lindsey Zgoda was walking to the driver’s side of her patrol car on Delaware south of Tacoma Avenue early Saturday when Mangual almost hit her as he sped by. Police chased the car to the Pep Boys parking lot at 1966 Elmwood where they arrested the suspects

Police found 500 milligrams of powdered cocaine, some marijuana and a scale in the car’s center console.
