TOWN OF NIAGARA – Lee S. Wallace, a longtime town employee and coach, and Donald E. Schildhauer, who ran unsuccessfully for highway superintendent in 2011, are the apparent candidates for town supervisor in this fall’s election.

Wallace, a Democrat, worked for the town for more than 40 years, most recently as recreation director. Schildhauer, the endorsed Republican candidate, is the longtime manager of Valley Tire.

Town Clerk Sylvia Virtuoso is acting as supervisor through the end of the year in the place of Steven C. Richards, who resigned as supervisor May 2 as part of a plea deal on misconduct charges. This fall’s election is for the one year that will be left on Richards’ unexpired term; a full four-year term will be contested in the 2015 election.

Wallace promised “a new era of transparency and civility” and said he intends to fight wasteful spending while strengthening police and fire services. Schildhauer did not return a call seeking comment Thursday.
