NIAGARA FALLS – The call is out to area musicians for two upcoming events in Niagara Falls.
The Niagara Falls Music & Arts Festival is accepting applications for bands, musicians and street performers for the fourth annual festival, scheduled for June 20 through June 22 on Old Falls Street.
Interested parties can submit their information at www.festivalatthefalls.com. Vendors and artisans also may apply for a spot in the festival.
The festival is adding a third day – a Friday – this year, said festival director Rick Crogan.
It will have room for a total of 42 bands, he said.
This will be the second year in a row the festival will take place on Old Falls Street. For the first two years, it was held on Main Street.
A new feature at this year’s festival will be an art gallery with works by middle and high school students from across Niagara County.
Hard Rock Café Niagara Falls also is looking for original bands to compete for the right to represent 81 participating locations in an international battle of the bands called Hard Rock Rising.
Bands can enter through the site’s Facebook page, Facebook.com/HRCNiagaraFallsUSA.
Registration runs through Jan. 27.
After a fan voting period that will run through Feb. 14, bands will compete locally on Thursday nights over five weeks starting March 6.
Local music industry judges will select the winning band to represent the Niagara Falls site.
There also will be an online contest for bands that don’t live within 100 miles of a Hard Rock Café.
Winners at the local sites will be whittled down to the top 25 contestants from around the world.
Winner of the Hard Rock’s international contest will win a trip to play at a one-day music festival in Rome in July.
The global winner is scheduled to be announced May 12.
