NIAGARA FALLS – Organizers of a Republican primary candidates’ forum in the 62nd State Senate district canceled their event Friday.

Four civic organizations had hoped to host a matchup between GOP hopefuls Robert G. Ortt and Gia M. Arnold Tuesday night in the Niagara Falls Public Library.

However, Ortt, the North Tonawanda mayor, scheduled other events for that night after Arnold pulled out of the race Aug. 13. When Arnold announced her return to active candidacy, the organizers tried to revive the forum, but Ortt said he couldn’t cancel the other events he had planned Tuesday.

The Niagara Falls Block Club Council, Rotary and Kiwanis clubs and the Niagara Falls chapter of the NAACP have planned a general election candidates’ forum for 6 p.m. Oct. 29 at the library.
