NIAGARA FALLS – The driver of a 15-passenger rented van, which came from Delaware to Niagara Falls with 14 tourists, was hit by thieves Tuesday after being assured by a travel center attendant at Niagara Majestic Tours that the lot in the 6500 block of Niagara Falls Boulevard was “the safest parking lot to park in.”

The driver told police that the van was parked on the west side of the lot and spoke to a man, 55 to 60 years old, five foot, eight inches, with a large build and gray hair, who drove a black Cadillac. The victim said he asked about the travel tours and the attendant told them that nothing ever happens in the parking lot, then sold all 14 of them a bus tour of Niagara Falls.

The victim said they left at 10 a.m. and when they returned at 2 p.m., the van’s lock had been damaged and many items were missing, including a total of $1,350 in cash, $200 worth of clothing, credit cards, a Romanian passport, and a $400 Blackberry cell phone. Some clothing also was missing.
