A 19-year-old Niagara Falls man was taken to Erie County Medical Center late Monday night after being shot three times near Pine Avenue and Seventh Street, city police said. He was listed in serious condition in intensive care at Erie County Medical Center.

Leonard L. Sistrunk Jr. suffered three gunshot wounds to the chest in the assault, which was reported shortly after 10:15 p.m. at his home in the 600 block of Pine Avenue.

Police found Sistrunk slumped over in the back seat of a car with wounds to the chest that appeared to have been caused by a rifle. His mother, who was not identified by name was at the scene, and demanded to drive her son to the hospital in Niagara Falls and he was then transferred to Erie County Medical Center.

Capt. William Thomson, chief of detectives, said an argument started in Buffalo and the suspects followed Sistrunk to his home on Pine Avenue.

Police said Sistrunk called his mother to report that three men were at his residence trying to kick down the door. She said when she arrived she saw her son fighting with two men and saw a third man, in a car, pull out a rifle. She said she yelled for her son to run and the suspect with the rifle began shooting, hitting Sistrunk with three of the rounds. All three fled in the vehicle.

Gunfire also struck a vehicle on Pine Avenue that was not involved in the incident.

A 28-year-old man told police that he was driving westbound on Pine Avenue when he observed a man running towards the intersection of Pine Avenue and Seventh Street. He said he slowed down to avoid hitting him and saw another man standing on the north side sidewalk holding a long gun with a silver barrel. He said he heard multiple shots and an explosion in his car’s rear window. The man said he got down and fled eastbound on Pine Avenue towards Main Street, then called police.

Police found a single bullet hole in the upper rear window of the sedan and a strike mark on the roof.

Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to contact Niagara Falls Police Detective Bureau at 286-4553.
