NIAGARA FALLS – A new Hampton Inn on Niagara Falls Boulevard that has been in the planning stages for a couple of years is scheduled to open the third week in January.

Construction on the four-story, 79-room hotel, located at 6500 Niagara Falls Blvd., began in May, said Ramesh Patel, the local hotelier who is developing the project under the name Falls Hotel LLC.

Patel, of Orchard Park, said he has received “all kinds of support” for the project, including from the city and the Niagara County Industrial Development Agency, which granted the project a $1.32 million tax break in August 2011.

Patel also said there has been “very good cooperation” from city officials in the development of the project.

The hotel can be seen from Interstate 190 near the Niagara Falls Boulevard exit.

Falls Hotel LLC bought the parcel from Boulevard Realty Corp. in March 2011 for $450,000, according to documents on file with the Niagara County Clerk’s Office.

The new hotel will be a limited-service hotel that will offer continental breakfast, a fitness center, swimming pool and meeting room.

Patel said he expects to hire between 16 and 18 part- and full-time employees.

The project was granted a 10-year payment-in-lieu-of-taxes deal that includes an exemption from paying sales tax on materials used to build or furnish the hotel. It received an extension on the start of the tax breaks from the IDA in June 2012.

Patel said he owns a number of other hotels and motels in Western New York, including a Red Carpet Inn on Southwestern Boulevard in Orchard Park, built in 1989.

His second hotel was a Hampton Inn on Rainbow Boulevard in the Falls. That was built in 1999, he said.

The other properties he has a business interest in include a Best Western in Lackawanna; Holiday Inn Express, Super 8 and Quality Inn in Hamburg; a Hampton Inn and Best Western in Jamestown; and a Holiday Inn Express in Bradford, Pa.

Patel said he has plans to build a new a Holiday Inn Express in Jamestown, as well as a Hampton Inn in Hamburg.
