LOCKPORT – A man who went on a car vandalism spree in Niagara Falls pleaded guilty Tuesday to first-degree auto stripping and was admitted to the judicial diversion program of court-supervised drug treatment by County Judge Matthew J. Murphy III.
Perry D. Shirback III, 25, of 18th Street, Niagara Falls, agreed to pay $7,016.92 in restitution to the owners of the 27 cars he vandalized Nov. 6 in the DeVeaux section of Niagara Falls.
“And why did this happen, so far as you know?” Murphy asked Assistant District Attorney Heather A. DeCastro. “He had a bad day,” DeCastro replied.
Shirback, who was ordered to pay at least $250 a month toward restitution, risks a seven-year prison sentence if he fails in diversion. If he succeeds, his charge will be reduced to a misdemeanor with no jail time.
