NIAGARA FALLS – A series of lectures will be held over the coming month about the War of 1812 and the roles of brothers Peter Buell Porter and Augustus Porter, significant historical figures in the area’s development.
The programs, and their presenters, are:
• Wednesday – Manchester, Fort Schlosser and the American Niagara Portage before the war; Paul Gromosiak, author and area historian.
• Sept. 25 – The capture of Fort Niagara and the burning of communities by the British in December 1813; Bob Emerson, director of Old Fort Niagara.
• Oct. 2 – Manchester after the war until it became the Village of Niagara Falls; Christopher Stoianoff, city historian.
• Oct. 9 – The Canadian Niagara Portage; Sherman Zavitz, Niagara Falls, Ont., historian.
All presentations will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in the auditorium of Earl W. Brydges Public Library, 1425 Main St.
