NIAGARA FALLS – The annual Niagara Boom Festival sponsored by LaSalle PRIDE and the LaSalle Yacht Club will be held from 6 to 10 p.m. Saturday at the LaSalle Yacht Club, 78 S. 68th St. The program includes an evening of dance, food service and exhibition.
There is no admission fee but a $5 donation would help defray costs. The Jazzline Band will provide music.
“Niagara Boom Days is set for this Saturday even as the Ice Boom still sits pretty on Lake Erie keeping back the ice flow from entering our Niagara River system,” said Terry Lasher Winslow, chairwoman of LaSalle PRIDE.
This year’s festival will be the first to take place before the Ice Boom has been removed from Lake Erie and the flood gate of ice passes by Cayuga Island.
Participants portraying French Explorer Robert Cavalier, Sieur de LaSalle, and Father Hennepin will lead a party of canoes and kayaks in paddling downstream on the Little Niagara River to open the festival. The party will push off at 6 p.m. from the Griffon Park Docks (on Buffalo Avenue/River Road) and anyone with a canoe or kayak and properly geared is invited to join.
