LOCKPORT – A former Niagara Falls woman pleaded guilty Monday in Niagara County Court to stealing money from her mother’s annuity account over a period of more than four years.
Jennifer L. Lofstrand, 39, of Fort Myers, Fla., will complete an $80,000 restitution package for her parents in the Falls when she is sentenced Oct. 15, defense attorney George V.C. Muscato said.
Lofstrand, who admitted to a reduced charge of petit larceny, originally was charged with stealing $131,708 between April 2007 and December 2011 by writing checks to herself from the annuity of which she was the trustee.
“I took care of their money because neither [parent] can,” Lofstrand told County Judge Matthew J. Murphy III. “I paid all their bills. … I spent some money on myself.”
Muscato said Lofstrand already has repaid $20,000, and her $25,000 bail will be allocated toward the restitution, with the remaining $35,000 to be paid at sentencing. Muscato said he already has that money in hand.
